Q. WHAT IS THE SACRED STONE CAMP CROWDFUNDING PAGE FOR AND WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO IT?

A. The Sacred Stone Camp set up this GoFundMe to help with general operating expenses for the original encampment at Standing Rock, on the land of Ladonna Bravebull Allard.  We work closely with Sacred Stone Camp but we are separate from them.  Our fund is only for water protectors' legal defense.

Q. ARE YOU A 501(C)3 NON-PROFIT? IS MY DONATION TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?

A.  We are not a 501(c)3 organization.  Donations are not tax-deductible.  We are a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Minnesota, and currently applying for tax-exempt federal status under section 501(c)4.   The Water Protector Legal Collective is an incorporated non-profit in the State of North Dakota and currently applying for 501(c)3 status.

Q. WE ARE A FOUNDATION AND WE NEED TO DONATE TO A 501(c)3. DO YOU HAVE A FISCAL SPONSOR?

A.  No, we do not have a fiscal sponsor.  We established the collective in order to protect the existing non-profits involved in this movement from the risks associated with managing legal defense funds in a situation like this.  If you must donate to a 501c3, we suggest donating to the Water Protector Legal Collective, or to one of the grassroots Indigenous organizations working on the ground at Standing Rock or in other struggles to protect Mother Earth.  Feel free to contact us for suggestions.

Q. DO YOU WORK WITH THE STANDING ROCK SIOUX TRIBE IN THEIR LAWSUITS?

A.  No, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has their own legal team working on interventions in the regulatory process for the Dakota Access pipeline, including attorneys from Earth Justice.

Q. DO YOU FILE CIVIL LAWSUITS AGAINST LAW ENFORCEMENT AND INDUSTRY?

A.  No, that is the work of the Water Protector Legal Collective, with support from the National Lawyer's Guild.
